Ensō, Meditation, Faith, Hope, and Love is an original acrylic painting on stretched canvas by Grant Nieddu from the Ensō Collection. A soft wash of pink, sky blue and cream, flecked with gold and green splatter, sits behind a bold magenta ensō. Teal-blue hand-lettered words are layered through the circle ("Hope," "Love" and "kind" are easy to find), magenta splatter gathers at the lower left of the ring, and white brushstrokes sweep across the whole canvas.

I painted this one as a commission. Currently on display at Southeastern University in Lakeland, Florida.

Overview of the Ensō Collection

Meditation, Faith, Hope, and Love is part of my hand-painted exploration of the Ensō, which I make as a meditation for my own ADHD. In Zen, "an ensō is a circle that is hand-drawn in one or two uninhibited brushstrokes to express a moment when the mind is free to let the body create." Each piece begins with playful, intuitive color. The ensō is almost always the final stroke, and once it is down I am forced to accept the piece exactly as it turned out, which relieves me of my obsessive perfectionism.
